WHO IS PDI?

In June of 2002, four doctors - W. Mauer, MD, J. Martinez, MD, S. Rosenberg, MD, and T. Herazy, DC, LAc - were practicing together at the Pioneer Medical Center in Chicago, IL. These four doctors had over 90 years of combined clinical experience using Complementary and Holistic Medicine therapies, and treated patients from all over the Midwest.

When Dr. Herazy developed Peyronie's disease he looked to the collective thinking and skills of these holistic medical experts for answers - and found none. These doctors had successfully treated from acne to herpes zoster, but they were stumped by PD - just like everyone else.

As his PD worsened, Dr. Herazy investigated any new information he could find about tissue pathophysiology and biochemistry in a frantic search to help himself. Working with his three medical friends to evaluate mountains of research data, a plan of action slowly emerged. By combining those alternative therapies that had shown reasonable - although not conclusive - levels of success, they hoped to develop a synergistic healing force by using an aggressive combination of many moderately successful PD therapies.

Dr. Herazy's PD improved, with no nodules, no curvature, no loss of dimension, and no loss of prior ability. The same Peyronie's disease protocol he used was applied to three patients over the next year (one had PD less than a year, one had PD more than three years and the last had PD for five years) and they all experienced improvement. Based on this success they determined to bring this idea to a larger audience - and Peyronie's Disease Institute (
PDI) was created.

Unlike medical treatment which is noted for its pessimism and indifference in the PD community, the
PDI concept was easily understood and dynamic; men got enthused about their recovery, and the idea of Alternative Medicine therapy for PD spread steadily.

About this time two of the doctors retired, and the clinic disbanded. Since the idea started because of Dr. Herazy, and he had personal experience with the problem, he assumed direction of
PDI. He continues today with those same basic ideas and treatment principles that were developed under the watchful eyes of his three medical friends.

Under the direction of Dr. Theodore Herazy, this PDI website was organized and its editorial and health related advice is maintained.
